Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. is currently seeking a full-time Welder Specialist in National City, CA.
Job Summary: The Welding Specialist will use hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products. This position is non-supervisory, but rather the Specialist serves as a team leader providing technical guidance to lower classified personnel and successfully leads the crew on large jobs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists in determining schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment, and skill of personnel.
- Monitors employees' work levels and review work performance.
- Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisor.
- Examines objects, systems, or facilities, and analyze information to determine needed installations, services, or repairs.
- May conduct or arrange for worker training in safety, repair, and maintenance techniques, operational procedures, or equipment use.
- Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Ignite torches or start power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits.
- Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
- Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse basic metal segments, using processes such as flux-cored arc, carbon arc.
- Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material
- Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
- Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
Job Requirements:
- Education: High school diploma, GED or applicable experience.
- 5 years related experience; shipboard welding experience.
- Able to qualify in STICK, MIG, and TIG.
- Experience in welding plate and pipe.
- Able to qualify steel, stainless steel, HY steel, aluminum, and bimetallic welds.
- Experience working off of blueprints, ship install drawings.
- Must be able to read schematics, follow detailed instructions and be self motivated.
- Read and interpret blueprints to plan and complete projects according to approved plan specifications.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow detailed oral and written instructions, schematics or drawings in standard English and to conduct activities in a safe manner.
- Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
- Must have manual and finger dexterity; able to grasp, manipulate, assemble small objects.
- Able to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted.
- Must be able to use hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently.
- Ability to make decisions using sound judgment while complying with policies, procedure appropriate principles and applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
- Sound interpersonal skills needed to interface, coordinate with company personnel, customers, and outside contacts, if appropriate.
- Time management skills to effectively manage one’s own time and others.
- Effective oral and written communications and listening skills.
- Must be able to obtain access to government/naval facilities.
