Marine Electronics Technician

Location: San Diego, CA

Epsilon Systems Solutions is seeking a full time Marine Electronics Technician in San Diego, CA.

Job summary: Under minimal supervision provide life cycle technical support in the assessment, troubleshooting, repair and/or replacement of various marine electronics systems and associated components across multiple ship classes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides engineering and technical support for specified U.S. Navy CG, DDG and Amphib class ships on an established schedule.
  • Performs necessary repairs and testing of onboard installed Combat Systems equipment, including but not limited to Internal Communications, Alarms/Sensors, Security systems, Audio/Visual/Display systems, Force Protection equipment, Navigation equipment, Meteorological equipment, Exterior Communications equipment, Countermeasure systems, and associated Network systems, Electronic Cooling/Dry Air systems, components and equipment.
  • Assesses, tests, renovates and repairs components and equipment in accordance with technical manuals and PMS documentation.
  • Performs tag-out and Work Authorization Form (WAF) procedures for Combat Systems and associated equipment. 
  • Provides engineering and technical support services and assists in diagnosing equipment problems, making repairs and maintaining systems equipment. 
  • Performs pre-operational equipment checks, system alignments and/or adjustments, for Combat Systems equipment.
  • Provides training to personnel on the repair, maintenance and proper operations of shipboard Combat Systems and equipment.
  • Develops and provides equipment/system training guides.
  • Assists in performing inspections and operation performance tests of Combat Systems equipment.
  • Provides technical assistance to recommend, correct, and document equipment and system discrepancies.
  • Provides technical assistance in order to upgrade the customerís ability to diagnose problems and operate equipment in accordance with established procedure. 
  • Performs maintenance actions and repairs to minimize the need for off-ship maintenance support and resources.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of twelve (12) years of experience with either shipboard marine electronics or skilled trades experience with related electronics maintenance and repair experience. 
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment and systems ship drawings and ship technical documents and manuals.
  • Must hold an active OSHA 10-hour certification
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD confidential security clearance and DBIDS badge.
  • Pursuant to the various government contractual requirements, all applicants must be U.S. citizens.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • NAVSEA STD 009-123 Fiber Optic Certification and experience building, installing and/or repairing fiber optic connectors preferred.
  • Maintenance experience with systems including: Internal Communications, Alarms/Sensors, Security systems, Audio/Visual/Display systems, Force Protection equipment, Navigation equipment, Meteorological equipment, Exterior Communications equipment, Countermeasure systems, and associated Network systems, and Electronic Cooling/Dry Air systems.
  • Prefer technical/professional certifications.

ADA Notations:

  • Ability to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs.
  • Ability to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
  • May ride ships at sea for extended periods.
  • May require wearing a respirator.
  • Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
