Small Boat/Material Handling Equipment Repair Facility Foreman

Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. is seeking a fulltime Small Boat/Material Handling Equipment Repair Facility Foreman in San Diego, CA.

Job Summary: Provide day to day supervisory functions for a facility that provides small boat maintenance & repair services, refurbishment of a variety of antenna radomes, as well as the maintenance, repair, overhaul and certification of a variety of Ordnance Handling Equipment (OHE), and Material Handling Equipment (MHE).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises all aspects of daily shop operations, ensuring receipt, assessments, inspections, repair op-test and turnover of equipment is conducted in a safe effective and efficiently productive manner
  • Ensures all applicable safety standards and regulations are followed in facility.
  • Monitors shops leads skill development of junior personnel.  
  • Maintains high standards of work, monitoring shops daily productivity and conducting periodic spot checks of completed jobs for thoroughness and quality.
  • Collaborates with shop leads to ensure all work assigned to technicians is done so in an equal and fair manner, in alignment with individual strengths.
  • Ensures all mandatory training requirements are completed
  • Tracks and approves individual shop leads time documentation, ensuring compliance with company timekeeping policy and accurate alignment to projects as required.
  • Provides backup time approval for individual shop leads.
  • Collaborates with shop leads on personnel leave, ensuring adequate coverage to support workload.
  • Maintains harmony and teamwork across all shops within the facility.
  • Works with shop leads to address corrective actions on areas of weakness and dealing with conflict. 
  • Conducts regular performance reviews of all shop leads & technicians in accordance with company guidance.
  • Posts personnel requisitions as necessary to fill open positions
  • Works with shop leads to screen applicant resumes, perform interviews, select candidates and initiate offers for those selected.     
  • Monitors shop condition, cleanliness, safety and the condition of shop equipment, to including cleanliness of parking lot and outside laydown areas.
  • Ensures compliance with proper hazmat/hazwaste use, storage and disposal procedures
  • Provides process improvement suggestions to supervisor in order to increase productivity and implement positive change.
  • Recommends to supervisor the availability of new tools, equipment and training.
  • Monitors in conjunction with shop leads, Govt TPOC and Ship Superintendents delivery to, and pickup of equipment from the facility.
  • Tracks all incoming, in work and completed work, providing an updated report on a weekly basis to the Govt TPOC.   
  • Works with shop leads to maintain an accurate inventory of all Government Furnished Material (GFM), to include RIB tool inventory and provide when requested.
  • Other tasks as assigned by supervisor


Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the supervision of mechanical equipment maintenance, repair and overhaul. Small boat or material handling equipment preferred.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills
  • Sound interpersonal skills needed to interface with assigned company personnel, customers, and outside contacts.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow detailed written instructions; technical manuals, schematics and drawings  
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DBIDS
  • Basic computer skills


ADA Notations:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to operate forklift, man lift and scissor lift
  • Ability to wear a face mask while working
  • Requires walking, standing, climbing stairs, visual skills and manual dexterity
  • Ability to go shipboard and work in a shipboard environment
  • Industrial work environment includes working in high noise level areas and in warm and cool weather conditions
