Marine Small Boat Mechanic III

Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. is seeking a Marine Small Boat Mechanic III in San Diego, CA.

Summary: Provide troubleshooting, maintenance, repair and material assessment of various types of marine mechanical systems and components in accordance with Navy guidance and OEM technical specifications in and outside the continental United States (OCONUS) as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical support relative to the operation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of boat mechanical systems, subsystems and components including but not limited to:
    • Cummins ISB, ISBe2, ISBe3, ISBe4, QSB4.5, QSB5.9, QSB6.7, ISC, QSC8.3, ISL, ISLe3, ISLe4, QSL9, CM850 and associated Electronic Control Systems. SmartCraft™ Marine Control System
    • Hamilton Waterjet Model HJ292 & HM651
    • Twin Disc Marine Gear Transmission
    • MTU 16V2000 Diesel Engine or Detroit Diesel Engine
    • Westerbeke 33KW EDE D-NET Generator
    • Mercury SeaPro and Verado outboard engines with Mercruiser DTS controls
  • Uses technical knowledge and experience to troubleshoot and identify causes for equipment/system failure to the component level.
  • Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and trouble-shooting functions.
  • Performs lay-up and related maintenance checks of boats in mid-level storage program.
  • Performs start-up and related maintenance checks of boats in mid-level storage program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of maintenance/repair as required.
  • Performs proper use of PPE as required.
  • Adheres to established Hazmat/Hazwaste utilization and disposal procedures.
  • Maintains shop equipment.
  • Travels overseas when required.
  • Performs daily shop clean up.
  • Drives to and from shops and facilities.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years’ general experience in respective trade and at least 3 consecutive years of experience repairing and troubleshooting the aforementioned Marine mechanical systems and components.
  • Comprehension & application of technical documentation - manuals & drawings
  • Knowledge of technical requirements required to maintain and service the aforementioned Marine equipment
  • Knowledge of proper use of diagnostic equipment
  • Knowledge in operation of various types of shop equipment; drill presses, media blasters, grinders & hydraulic presses
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Basic computer operations
  • Ability to identify problems and provide solutions relating to required repairs/maintenance
  • Ability to work in a team environment and be flexible of needed
  • Ability to travel, occasionally on short notice. Locations include, but are not limited to: Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, Yorktown, Norfolk, VA.; Jacksonville, Mayport and Port Canaveral, FL.; Newport, RI.; Groton, CT.; Charleston, SC.; Annapolis, Md.; Earle, NJ; San Diego and Alameda, CA; Bremerton, WA; Portland, OR; Alaska; Fujairah and Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates; Kuwait Naval Base, Kuwait; Naval Support Activity, Bahrain; Republic of Panama; Rota, Spain; Djibouti, Africa; Guam, and other OCONUS locations as designated
  • Possess organizational skills
  • Possess or ability to obtain a secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possess certification for Graduate of CUMMINS Insite Familiarization course and hold an Insite Qualification & Tier 3 QSB/QSC Engine Qualifications
  • Possess certification to work on Mercury Outboard Systems to include SeaPro and Verado outboard engines and have completed Intro to CDS/G3 DTS and SeaPro/Verado I & II qualifications

ADA Notations:

  • Ability to work in a field environment for extended periods (and in some cases, areas of extreme heat and humidity such as Guam, Djibouti, Bahrain, etc.)
  • Ability to work in maintenance shop environment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces of small craft
