Process Improvement Support (Engineering Technician III)

Location: San Diego, CA

Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. is seeking a full time Process Improvement Support (Engineering Technician III) in San Diego, CA.

Job Summary:

Support contractor personnel shall provide industrial, process improvement fundamentals across a variety of production processes as required to analyze product line and shop processes, workflow and interfaces through the application of Kata and Lean principles to identify and recommended process improvements to resolve problems and aid in long term project execution in the key areas of production, safety, schedule, cost, and quality.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Applies process improvement philosophy and tools.
  • Participates or facilitates Rapid Improvement Events (RIEs), Just Do Its (JDIs), Illuminate Think Shops, High Velocity Learning (HVL), 5S events as required, as well as support for Departmental process improvement data gathering and surveys.
  • Utilizes process improvement principles, along with creative thinking methodologies to solve complex process improvement problems and aid in long term project execution in the key areas of safety, schedule, cost, and quality.
  • Works with Production Department and Command personnel to analyze Product Line and Shop processes, workflow, and interfaces. Apply Kata and Lean principles to determine recommended improvements.
  • Explains and documents rationale for recommended improvements in terms of safety, schedule, cost, and quality.
  • Briefs Production Department leadership and Command personnel on recommended improvements.
  • Assists in developing performance improvement skills.
  • Manages multiple tasks and competing demands.
  • Promotes process improvement concepts and function as an effective change agent throughout the organization
  • Assists with developing standardized work practices.
  • Assists production shops alignments, and planning of realignments.
  • Assists in developing and implementing process improvements to meet production goals.
  • Assists in providing data for cost benefit analysis in order to determine the total cost of keeping and overhauling older equipment vs. purchasing new equipment.
  • Works collaboratively in order to build effective relationships with others within the organization.
  • Assists with training and facilitation of process improvement training for shop personnel.
  • Document and monitor industrial processes, rules, metrics and standard operating procedures as a result of improvement initiatives.
  • Documents training events.
  • Maintains and updates all process related documents for reference purposes
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of experience
  • Possess and effectively use verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, to include developing presentations complete with graphs, charts, and visual representations.
  • Motivated and be an effective motivator to assist the Production Department and SWRMC workforce in the constant pursuit of process improvement efforts.
  • Ability to reason through problems and suggest workable solutions
  • Teamwork mindset
  • Ability to control diverse priorities and assignments
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET level security clearance

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lean Six Sigma yellow or green belt certification

ADA Notations:

  • Good manual dexterity
  • Works in shop environment
  • Requires walking, reaching, sitting and concentration in the presence of occasional noise
  • Ability to move in narrow and restricted passageways, up/down steep and narrow ladders or stairways
  • Ability to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs. in weight
  • Noise conditions range from very quiet to loud
