Interior Communications (IC)/Navigation Systems Support Technician (Engineering Technician V)

Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. is seeking a full time contingent Interior Communications (IC)/Navigation Systems Support Technician (Engineering Technician V) in San Diego, CA.

Summary: This position provides technical guidance and system troubleshooting in support of ship’s force conducting system adjustments and minor repairs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides support as primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Submarine IC and Navigation systems to include but not limited to: Gyrocompass Set, Electronically Suspended Gyro Navigator (ESGN), Ring Laser Gyro Navigator (RLGN), Ring Laser Gyrocompass (RLG), MK-19 Gyrocompass, MK-27 Gyrocompass, ship's digital depth detector, underwater speed log (Various MKS AND MODS), synchro signal amplifiers, surface radar and digital chart voyage management system, various types of IS communications systems, various types of ship's indication systems and global positioning system (GPS).
  • Provides training to sailors in the use, maintenance and repair of Submarine IC and Navigation systems.
  • Supports Submarine TSRA and INSURV teams which may require travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations.
  • Drafts and routes for approval Technical Assistance Visit Reports (TAVRs) at the completion of Technical Assists as required to the customer.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 8 years Navy Ship experience with the assessment and repair of US Navy Submarine IC and Navigation Systems
  • Working knowledge in critical submarine navigation systems, their operating software and interfaces, and critical subsystem topology.
  • Working knowledge in IC Systems, their operating software and interfaces, and critical subsystem topology
  • Ability to obtain / maintain a SECRET security clearance
  • Ability to troubleshoot and assess various pieces of US Navy Submarine IC and Navigation Systems
  • Ability to communicate well with superiors and peers
  • Ability to read technical manuals and repair standards
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision
  • Proficient in use of related computer program/systems, Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with the following shipboard equipment: Gyrocompass Set, Electronically Suspended Gyro Navigator (ESGN), Ring Laser Gyro Navigator (RLGN), Ring Laser Gyrocompass (RLG), MK-19 Gyrocompass, MK-27 Gyrocompass, ship's digital depth detector, underwater speed log (Various MKS AND MODS), synchro signal amplifiers, surface radar and digital chart voyage management system, various types of IS communications systems, various types of ship's indication systems and global positioning system (GPS)

  • Frequent standing, sitting, walking, handling, feeling with hands, reaching with arms
  • Regular Communication (hearing and speaking)
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting of heavy objects
  • Ability to go aboard ships, barges and other naval craft
  • Ability to move in narrow and restricted passageways, up/down steep and narrow ladders or stairways onboard ships
  • Ability to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs in weight
  • Industrial, shop environment
  • Ability to wear face mask while working
