Junior Piping and Hydraulics Systems Engineer I

Epsilon Systems Solutions is currently seeking a Junior Piping and Hydraulics Systems Engineer I at entry level for work in San Diego. If you enjoy working on mission critical projects in a team-oriented environment, please read on!

Summary:  The Junior Piping and Hydraulics Systems Engineer, under oversight, direction and guidance from Senior degreed Engineers, will provide full-time onsite engineering and technical support for the systems, subsystems and equipment contained in the Duties and Responsibilities section.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering technical support for pipe flushing and design. These systems include: Hydraulic Systems, Lube Oil Systems, Fuel Oil Systems, Fresh Water Systems, Air Systems (LP/HP/DRY), Sea Water Systems, Fire Fighting System (Water Mist, Magazine Sprinkling), Plumbing System (CHT, Deck Drain), Diesel Exhaust (Bellows), and Secondary Drainage (Oily waste).
  • Make adjustments to and minor repairs on hydraulics, controls, and deck machinery. Provide technical services in connection with Fleet Technical Assistance and assessments on all naval ship classes and applicable support ships.  These systems include: Boat davits, cranes, capstans, hydraulic ramps, sliding pad eyes, Controllable Pitch Propeller Hydraulics, Cable reels, Ballast/deballast Hydraulic power Units, PLC Controls, Electric/electronic control, detection, alarm sensing, indicating, and monitoring systems and equipment.
  • Be able to interpret, select, adopt, and apply engineering guidelines, principles, and practices to solve technical problems.
  • Conduct engineering investigations and analyses of system failures.
  • Recommend corrective repair actions using root cause analysis.
  • Respond to engineering service requests (ESR).
  • Provide Departure from Specification investigation and adjudication support.
  • Recommend alternative engineering solutions to repeated equipment failures.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelorís Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM major.
  • Zero to two years' experience with the assessment, design, installation, testing and maintenance of naval or marine piping and hydraulics systems.
  • Ability to utilize computers including the Microsoft Office Suite for compiling information for reports and history files and transfer digital pictures from camera to computer and enhance as required and label them for report purposes.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Pursuant to the various government contractual requirements, all applicants must be U.S. Citizens.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous private and/or public shipyard experience.

ADA Notations:

  • Requires walking, reaching, sitting and concentration in the presence of occasional noise.
  • Ability to move in narrow and restricted passageways, up/down steep and narrow ladders or stairways (onboard ships).
  • May ride ships at sea for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs. in weight.
  • Ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Ability to wear a respirator.
  • Frequently lifts, carries and helps setup tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 50 lbs.
  • May be required to onboard ships to inspect Tanks, Voids and Spaces.
  • Employee may be required to travel to different RMC'S or Naval Ship locations. Travel may include extended underway periods and travel outside of the continental United States.
