Senior Firefighting Systems Engineer

Our Technology and Technical Solutions (TTS) sector focuses on the development and integration of solutions that support mission success of critical systems such as secure communications, satellite systems, nuclear operations solutions, network operations, program, training, administrative and environmental management support services. This includes providing a full range of technical services, maintenance, repair, and assessment execution and coordination expertise as support services.

Our TTS team is currently seeking a Senior Firefighting System Engineer with four or more yearsí experience for work in San Diego. If you enjoy working on mission critical projects in a team-oriented environment, please read on!

Summary:  The Senior Firefighting System Engineer will provide full-time onsite engineering and technical support for the systems, subsystems and equipment contained in the Duties and Responsibilities section.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides engineering support for the following systems: Aqueous Film-Forming Foam (AFFF), CO2, Halon and Heptafluoropropane (HFP) systems, Aqueous Potassium Carbonate (APC), Countermeasure Washdown (CMWD), Motor Gasoline (MOGAS), Fire, Main Drainage and Flushing Pumps and valves, Temporary Fire-Main Protection System, pumps and valves, Flame and Smoke ejection system, Water mist, saltwater sprinklers, Fire-main system piping.
  • Reviews Shipboard Temporary Fire Protection Plan by accomplishing friction and elevation loss calculations to determine the location of the most hydraulically remote station.
  • Prepares layout and detail drawings and sketches for varied and complex design projects using computer aided drafting software.
  • Responds to Engineering Services Request (ESR).
  • Interfaces with CHENG and Deputy CHENG to address ship non-conformances, assess risk, and provide recommendations for new and existing firefighting systems and material DFSs.
  • Coordinates with other engineering personnel, production and maintenance team, ships force, NAVSEA, ISEAs, NSWCs, RMCs, and others as required to develop solutions for firefighting systems related issues.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelorís Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM major.
  • Minimum 4 years full-time experience with U.S. Navy firefighting systems repair and modernization.
  • Ability to utilize computers including the Microsoft Office Suite for compiling information for reports and history files and transfer digital pictures from camera to computer and enhance as required and label them for report purposes.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Pursuant to the various government contractual requirements, all applicants must be U.S. Citizens.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masterís Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM major.
  • Previous private and/or public shipyard experience.

  • Requires walking, reaching, sitting and concentration in the presence of occasional noise.
  • Ability to move in narrow and restricted passageways, up/down steep and narrow ladders or stairways (onboard ships).
  • May ride ships at sea for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs. in weight.
  • Ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Ability to wear a respirator.
  • Frequently lifts, carries and helps setup tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 50 lbs.
  • May be required to onboard ships to inspect Tanks, Voids and Spaces.
